We do not add a car's figures together into a single number. A list here is ordered by one measured
quantity — most horsepower, fewest complaints per 10,000 built, best fuel economy — and makes only the
claim that quantity supports. Every figure belongs to one country and one model year, and nothing on
this site puts two markets in one comparison space.
How it works
A car page carries every figure we hold for that car, in the unit it was published in, with the organisation that published it and the basis it was measured on. A figure we do not hold is named as an absence with its reason. Nothing is filled in, defaulted or estimated into a gap.
A list is sorted by one figure at a time and says which: most horsepower, fewest recall campaigns, highest crash rating, best fuel economy. A car that does not carry that figure is not in the list — it is shown separately, with the reason it is not carried. The list also states its own coverage: how many cars of the market-year carry the figure, and out of how many.
Petrol mpg and electric MPGe are two different quantities and are never mixed in one list. Every list's tie-break is published, so any list can be reproduced from the rows.
Browsing all of this is free. What is sold is the API and the bulk data behind it.

What a market is
Every paid plan covers every launched market, and there is nothing to choose at checkout.
Plans differ by what you can DO — how many bulk downloads a day, whether you get an API key,
and whether the derived endpoints are included — not by how many markets they cover.
Figures are measured and published per market and model year and are never pooled, so each
market-year is its own download rather than one combined table.
Reading the site costs nothing
Every car page, every figure, every source and every figure table in every launched market is free,
unlimited and needs no account. Nothing on a plan changes what you can read here.
What a plan buys, given that
The figures are measured by government agencies and are free at the source and free here. What a
plan buys is the ASSEMBLED record: one file per market and model year holding every car, every
figure beside the publisher that measured it and the basis it was measured on, every absent figure
beside the reason it is absent, and the licence of every source with any acknowledgement that
licence requires. Reading a figure is free; getting all of them joined, dated, attributed and
licence-checked in one documented file is the product. From Professional up, a plan also buys an
API key and the endpoints derived from the same data.

Can I cancel anytime?

How does billing work?
Charged monthly or annually via Paddle. Taxes included — we handle VAT and sales tax globally so you do not have to.
Why is a figure sometimes missing rather than zero?
Because a value we do not hold is not a value of nought. Where a source exists and refuses commercial redistribution we name it; where none exists we say so. A measured zero — no recalls, for instance — is shown as an affirmative fact and looks nothing like an absence.
Which plans include an API key?
Professional and Global. Single and Regional do not, and the worker refuses a key to either — so no plan page, invoice or email will tell you otherwise. They reach the bulk download by signing in instead, which is why they need no key.
What exactly is in the bulk download?
One file per market and model year. Its first line is a manifest naming every column, its unit, its publisher and its licence, plus the commit and the source dates the file was built from — so the file is usable without reading anything of ours. Then one record per car, and one record per car and figure: a measured figure carries its value, unit, publisher and basis, and an absent one carries the reason it is absent. Then one record per source with its licence and whether reselling it is permitted. The last line carries the counts, so a truncated download is detectable. NDJSON by default, CSV on request.
May I redistribute what I download?
That is decided by each source's own licence, not by ours, which is why every source in the file states its licence and whether commercial redistribution is permitted. Nothing is included unless our register records that permission. Some of those licences make an acknowledgement a condition of reuse — Canadian rows carry Natural Resources Canada's fuel-consumption data under the Open Government Licence – Canada — and the manifest reproduces the exact sentence each one asks for. Reproduce them verbatim wherever you publish the data or anything derived from it.
